Wichard van der Veen social housing organisation in the Netherlands introduced a Pilot with Smart Battery at the Parteon Office. This office is benefitting from solar energy (190 solar panels at office roof) and with the smart battery it aims combining smart Storage with Solar Energy and contributing to grid optimization.
The pilot is located in Wormerveer (20 km Northwest of Amsterdam)
The social housing organisation has approx. 17,200 premises; 16,000 houses; 1,000
garage/storage; 200 miscellaneous (210 internal + external staff)
The sustainability target of the organisation is to have all premises CO2 neutral by 2050.
With more Solar Panels the organisation creates imbalance after 2025 (Generation and Consumption are not equal).
The own Consumption of Solar Energy is usually 30%- 60%. The other part of power/energy should be transported back to the Grid.
Therefore, the grid suppliers have to invest substantially: These investments have to be earned back. In addition, there is a long waiting lists for larger connections and obtaining connection at all.
Stages of the pilot:
The System installation and operational testing was carried out in September 2021.
The social housing organisation is gaining experience with different strategies: Sept 2021 Apr 2022
August 2022
October 2022
The effects of a battery:
•Smaller grid connection
•Less time needed for new connection
•Reduce pressure on grid
•CO2 reduction
Next steps
•Incorporate the pilot lessons in project development
•Analysis / expectation power usage and solar generation potential
•Assessing required battery size / power, peakshaving potential and power usage
•Assessing investment and operational costs
•Technical,Economic and Sustainability considerations
•Available subsidies ( province North Holland): 50% technical advice up to €75k
